Note that the newspaper notice of the marriage of his daughter Margaret says: "second daughter of Capt. William Pearce" Capt. of what, where? Ship's Capt. like Abram Pearce? I have looked though all the standard list of Army and Navy officers for this time and have found no-one that looks like him. 1838: PAC 1838 Census M5220, Kings County Aylesofrd Township. William Pearce Farmer 1 male under 14 1 Female under 14 2 males above 14 not head 4 female above 14 Total 9 Children of Susannah Gates and William Pearce Capt. were as follows: i Sarah Jane Pearce [75], born 18 Dec 1814. She married on 10 Jun 1854 in , Kings County Thomas Handley Tupper [166], born 1 Apr 1810 in Cornwallis, , Nova Scotia; died 24 Oct 1889 in Kingston. Notes: Her birth date calculated from her gravestone = 1814. Birth date in Township Book is , as shown, 1814. The marriage bond Kings County LDS 1302060 has signatures of Thomas H. Tupper, Thos. Tupper, Abraham Spinney, Presumably her aunt Jane Pearces husband, and Ambrose Goucher. The minister is C. Lockhardt. Thomas' Uncle was Rev. Dr. Charles Tupper the Baptist Minister in Kingston. But he appears to have been married to a Lockhardt himself so I guess everybody got along quite well. Dr. Tupper was the father of the Baronet Charles Tupper. The couple are marked Widower and spinster. She was 39. ii Margaret Ann Pearce [74], born 30 Nov 1815; died 10 Nov 1889 in , Aylesford. She married on 11 Aug 1835 Alexander Jacques [100]. Birth date calc'ed from death = 1815 Birth Date in Aylesford Township Book is as shown, 1815. The list of marriage bond LDS 1376196 shows her bond to marry Alexander Jacques (It is spelt Jakes) as 11 August 1835. They are shown as bachelor and spinster. I have not as yet seen that document itself. The newspaper says "second daughter of Capt. William Pearce." This matches Aylesford Town Book data. iii Jonathan Pearce [77], born 8 May 1817. Notes: 1891 Census shows him as Uncle of Louisa Jacques. Birth date is from Aylesford Township book. He may have gone west to Calgary with his brother James. Census data etc indicates he never married. On one census he is shown as "artist" I have tried to follow this up with bibliographic searches on N.S. artists but have found nothing. I have found no death for him in N.S. of Alberta. iv Charlotte Pearce [117], born 3 Jun 1819. She married on 19 Aug 1844 in , Kings County John Kirkpatrick [167]. Notes: List of marriage bonds LDS #1376196 is co-signed by William Pearce of Aylesford Yeoman. The marriage date given is the date of the marriage bond. The birth date is from Aylesford Township book. The Marriage was also recorded in the times at Halifax. Tues., 27 Aug 1844. As reported in Vital Statistics from Nova Scotia Newspapers: "at Aylesford by the Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia: John Kirkpatrick / Charlotte 3rd d/o William PIERCE." The Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia at that time was John Inglis. v William Henry Pearce [171], born 23 Dec 1823 in Aylesford Prob.. Birth date is from Aylesford Township book. vii Susannah Pearce [73], born 25 Jul 1826; died 30 Nov 1860. She married on 21 Dec 1854 in , Kings County John F. Smith [88], born abt 1826. Notes: Actually the death record says Nov 31 1860 age 26 years and 6 months. Wife of John F. Smith. This would make her born in 1834, Yet the Aylesfford Township book says 1826. The marriage bond says Dec 21 1854 but the newspaper announce is Apr 20 1855.The newspaper says eldest daughter of Mrs. William Pearce which is confusing. Maragret, Charlotte, Sarah Jane and Elizabeth all appear to have been older than her. The marriage bond was signed by: William H. Pearce. James Pearce Charles Jaques and John F. Smith viii James Pearce [8], born 24 Nov 1828 in Aylesford, Kings County; died 30 Aug 1901 in Edmonton, Alberta. He married on 19 May 1855 in Aylesford Jane Magee [20], born <1833> in Belfast, Ireland; died bef 1886, daughter of John Magee [444] and Matilda Scholes [461] . Notes: 1828, Nov 24: The birth date in the Aylesford Township Book is Nov 24, 1828. The birth date he gives on the 1901 Census is Nov 24 1828. 1851: James Pearce does not have a separate listing on the 1851 census. (Aylesford.) He appears to be part of the household of his brother Jonathan Pearce on that census. Since there is a male over 50 on the census and William2 Pearce died in July 1851 I presume the male over 50 is William2. ix Ezekiel Pearce [163], born abt 1829. He married on 29 Apr 1854 Monah Condon [165]. Notes: The marriage bond says April 29 1854. The Marriage bond is signed by James Pearce, Hinkle Condon, Nathan Parker and Ezekiel Pearce. The signature of James Pearce appears to be the same as on the marriage certificate of James Pearce and Jane Magee. Charles Lockhardt was the minister. Ezekiel Pearce is note listed in the children of William Pearce in the Aylesford Township book. I have given his birth date as one year after the last know child. Generation 2 2. Notes for Judith Townsend Only the name is given in the Essex antiquarian. See John Baker 1734-. Regarding her parents: A note from Janice Gower . . . I have only quickly looked at the chart this morning, but I noticed you don't seem to have the parents for 13 Judith TOWNSEND. Or maybe you do and I have missed it. Anyway, I got some information about her in the book Journey Across Plowed Ground by Elizabeth M. Edmunds. Her father was Joseph TOWNSEND, born 23 Dec 1665, page 15. He married 9 August 1694 (2) Judith Woodman, page 15. She died 5 Feb 1700/1 Malden, MA. Joseph died Boston, 6 July 1698 according to the IGI. The IGI says Joseph's father was Thomas TOWNSEND of Boston, MA and he married Mary DAVIS . Now the TOWNSEND family goes on forever: Note from Stephen Pearce. I await further proof of the parentage of Judith Townsend. The NEHGR does not know of the parentage mentioned above and I have note seen the book Jouney Across Plowed Ground. I have not found the IGI releable enough to cite as primary evidence. I note all this here, but have not continued it. > >Thomas Townsend b 1637, Lynn, Essex Co. MA (Henry F. Anne Or Anna BULLARD (BULLER) [1258] . Notes for Hannah DANA (SP) The individual Information is from Cutter, New England Families. I have investigated the family a little bit through Ancestral File and the information seems reliable as far as I could check it to other sources. Among her interesting relatives are her great nephew Francis Dana whom see, 1743 - 1811, first Ambassador to Russia, Secretary to John Adams, founding member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Massachusets, etc. etc. Francis Dana's grandson is another lawyer Richard Henry Dana (1815-1882), author of Two Years Before the Mast. Charles Dana Gibson the artist is also descended from this family. An unexpected relationship is that Richard Henry Dana's wife, Sarah Watson is descended from the immigrant Samuel Grant and so she was President Ulysses S. Grant's 3rd cousin.
